Global Citizenship is a major feature in Lourdes Secondary, with all students experiencing this in both the formal and informal curriculum.
A recent example of this was the involvement in the Enough Food IF campaign. We provided a presentation and posters to kick things off.
S3 pupils took part in an Inter Disciplinary Project with input from the Religious Education, Geography and Modern Studies departments. This activity gave students the opportunity to write messages about global hunger on paper plate templates and complete postcards asking David Cameron to address this injustice at the G8 meeting in June. A number of S3 students were photographed in one of the school playgrounds, spelling out a large IF and displaying SCIAF publicity materials.
In addition, students, including members of the Justice and Peace Group, helped to promote and sell IF wristbands, provided by SCIAF, to staff and students over a number of lunchtimes in the school – £145 was raised as a result of this enterprise and the money sent to SCIAF.
